Dental implantology is the field of dentistry that is concerned with the replacement of missing teeth and their supporting structures with artificial prostheses anchored to the jawbone.

What types of dental implants are available?
Various types of dental implants are available, including:

A.Endosteal implants: These dental implants are placed in the jawbone. Typically shaped like small screws, cylinders or plates, they are the most commonly used type of implant.

B.Subperiosteal implants: These dental implants are placed under the gum but on, or above, the jawbone. This type of implant may be used in patients who have a shallow jawbone and cannot or do not want to undergo a procedure to rebuild it.

Dental implants are typically made of titanium, a biocompatible material that is accepted by the body and serves as a strong and sturdy foundation for replacement teeth. Alternative materials are used in some cases like gold or zirkonium...

What is the procedure for dental implants in general?
Dental implant surgery is usually an outpatient surgery performed in stages:
1.Your damaged tooth is removed.
2.Your jawbone is prepared for surgery, a process that may involve bone grafting.
3.After your jawbone heals, your oral surgeon places the dental implant metal post in your jawbone.

Do you need anesthesia for dental implant?
If your implant placement involves just one or two teeth, you'll likely only need a local anesthetic. However, when multiple dental implants are required, a conscious sedation or general anesthesia can work better for guaranteeing maximum comfort.

What are the side effects of dental implants?
Infection at the implant site. Injury or damage to surrounding structures, such as other teeth or blood vessels. Nerve damage, which can cause pain, numbness or tingling in your natural teeth, gums, lips or chin.

Is it painful to get a dental implant?
Considering dental implant surgery to replace missing or damaged teeth, but concerned about how bad it will hurt or the pain afterwards? These are common fears. However, most dental implant patients say the procedure doesn't hurt and the discomfort is minimal

What is the crown of an implant tooth made of?
Full porcelain dental implant crowns can be made of many materials. All porcelain dental implant crowns can be zirconia, feldspathic, leucite, alumina, lithium disilicate (E.max) or several other types.

How long do dental implants last?
A crown, however, is rated to last about 10 to 15 years before normal wear can cause the tooth to require replacement, although excellent dental hygiene could extend the life beyond 15 years. Mouth location is also a factor in the expected longevity of a dental implant.
